JOHNSON CITY, TN –

In November 2015, the Department of Biological Sciences at East Tennessee State University set up live streaming cameras focused on two active nests of Bald Eagles, our national bird. Two separate mated pairs of Bald Eagles have been selected, one nest is located in Bluff City, and the other is in Johnson City. These cameras provide a novel perspective into the lives and habits of these beautiful birds. Bald Eagles are long-lived birds of prey that have high nest site fidelity and will reuse the same structure for years. As part of the courtship behavior, mated pairs of Bald Eagles will bring new twigs and branches to the pre-existing nest each breeding season which results in a massive structure that can be well over one ton in weight! The Bluff City eagles laid eggs on Feb 3 and Feb 6. The Johnson City eagles laid eggs on Feb 10 and Feb 13. Eggs of Bald Eagles are laid 3 days apart (so ours read the maternity guides and laid their eggs on schedule) and the eggs hatch in 35 days. Using these guidelines, we have calculated the Bluff City eggs should hatch on March 9 and 12 and the Johnson City eggs should hatch on March 16 and 19. S o keep your eyes out everyone, we may have eaglets soon!! This is a prime opportunity to observe these iconic birds in their natural habitat, undisturbed.

PAWS and STRIPES

These dogs are not pets, they are service dogs with the complete protection and rights granted by the American with Disabilities Act.

Gabrielle Bonheur "Coco" Chanel was a French fashion designer, Nazi spy, and businesswoman. The founder and namesake of the Chanel brand, she was credited in the post-World War I era with liberating women from the constraints of the "corseted silhouette" and popularizing a sporty, casual chic as the feminine standard of style.

Born in 1883, in France, Coco Chanel’s start was different from what many of the people who wore her fashions could imagine. Rather than grow up in a lavish estate or in the heart of Paris’ fashion world, Chanel was raised in an orphanage where she was sent at the age of 12, when her mother died at age 32. She was abandoned by her father who either couldn’t or didn’t want to take care of her.

Chanel was taught to sew by the nuns who raised her, something that would come in handy for the rest of her life. Before she turned to fashion, Chanel briefly worked as a night club singer in Vichy and Moulins were she was referred to as “Coco.” She opened her first shop on Paris’s Rue Cambon in 1910 where she sold hats. By the 1920s she was in international superstar.

As unlikely as these pals may seem, they’ve been through thick and thin together in their long and strange lives. Rescued from a drug baron in Atlanta, Georgia, Baloo the bear, Leo the lion, and Shere Khan the tiger were extremely malnourished when they were discovered by the authorities, so much so that their chances for survival were slim.

After these three animal buddies were brought to the Noah's Ark Sanctuary in Locust Grove, Georgia, they were able to live somewhat normal lives and play together in harmony. In 2016 Leo passed away, and in 2018 Shere Khan joined him in the great beyond. Baloo is the final member of the trio, but he’s surrounded by plenty of friends at Noah’s Ark Sanctuary.

Check your shampoo bottle label. I don’t know why I didn’t figure this out sooner!! It’s the shampoo I use in the shower! When I wash my hair, the shampoo runs down my whole body, and printed very clearly on the shampoo label is this warning: FOR EXTRA VOLUME AND BODY! No wonder I have been gaining weight!!!

Well I have gotten rid of that shampoo and I am going to start using Dawn dish soap instead. Their label reads: DISSOLVES FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE. Problem solved!!.

If I don’t answer the phone, I’ll be in the shower!

STROKE HAS A NEW INDICATOR

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) ....she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.

Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Jane passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead. It only takes a minute to read this.

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.

T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE
SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e. It is sunny out today.)

R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke.
