For those of you who have dishwashers...have you noticed that your dishes don't seem to be getting clean? Well, you are not crazy. For years I have used Cascade and I noticed that since I bought my last box it didn't seem to be doing the job. At first, I thought that I forgot to put in the powder, but when I washed them the second time, they were still dirty.
So, I called the company, and they told me they have removed the phosphates from their product. Now the phosphates are what get the dishes clean. You've seen the advertisements...putting the dishes in the dishwasher without rinsing them. You can't do that anymore since the phosphates have been removed.
Yesterday, while watching the news, believe it or not, they did report on this very subject. Apparently there are a few states, about 12 or 15, that have decided they don't like the phosphates. and have banned them. So the companies that make the dishwasher detergent decided to remove the phosphates from their product, not only for the states that don't want them, but also, for ALL the states whether they have a law against phosphates or not.
According to the news report, the phosphates that are in dishwasher detergent do not have an impact on the water. The impact comes from things like fertilizers and such.
Meanwhile, we will use more water (pre-rinsing/washing) and more electricity as a result in using these 'new' dishwasher detergents in order to appease a few states.

As a suggestion from some of my followers, I have changed the recipe page so that my latest post is first. This week it is a different type of Chicken Parmesan - made without the spaghetti sauce. I hope you will enjoy it.

Hi Everyone - have posted a new recipe on my recipe page (click on 'recipes' upper left hand corner of blog page) - Chicken Fricassee. Also, I had to redo my January 6th post on Lemon Meringue Pie - for some reason it got lost in cyber space. I added Lemon Chiffon instructions. Enjoy!
