A KID'S LETTER TO HER MOMMY.

Dear Readers:

You may have read my post of November 26th, "Let us be thankful as we celebrate Thanksgiving",where I reposted my then 5-year old granddaughter's concern about those in need.  Now she is 7, and she decided on her own to write a letter to her mommy.

INTERESTING OP ED BY CAL THOMAS - "THE COMING BETRAYAL OF ISRAEL"

Dear Readers:

While browsing the web, came across this article regarding the current negotiation between the United States and other major world powers.  Gives one a lot to think about.  It starts...

In Geneva, Switzerland, The United States and other major powers appeared close to a deal with Iran to curb its nuclear program in exchange for lifting some economic sanctions against the terrorist-sponsoring state. Negotiations, however, fell apart at the last minute when France and Iran balked at the final wording on the interim draft. Talks are expected to resume within a few weeks, but it is worth pausing to consider what was nearly agreed to and what the outcome could likely be...

I'VE DECIDED TO DO MY PART FOR THE NATIONAL DEBT BY BETTER MANAGING MY PERSONAL BUDGET!

Dear Readers:

Once again an email to share with you.  I might actually follow this suggestion.  After all, I have the Federal Government setting the example!

I'm cutting back and you may want to also....

I'm going to bite the bullet.

President Obama ordered the cabinet to cut $100,000,000.00 ($100 million) from the $3,500,000,000,000.00 ($3.5 trillion) federal budget.

I'm so impressed by this sacrifice that I have decided to do the same thing with my personal budget.  I spend about $2,000 a month on groceries, household expenses, medicine, utilities, etc., but it's time to get out the budget cutting axe, go through my expenses, and cut back.

I 'm going to cut my spending at exactly the same ratio (1/35,000) of my total budget.  After doing the math, it looks like instead of spending $2,000 a month, I 'm going to have to cut that number by six ($0.06) cents.  Yes, I 'm going to have to get by with $1999.94, but that's what sacrifice is all about.

I'll just have to do without some things, that are, frankly, luxuries – six cents worth.

Did this President actually think no one would do the math? Please send this to everyone on your list so people understand how idiotic a $100 million cut is in a $3.5 trillion budget – ludicrous!!!!!!!

"There are two ways to conquer and enslave a nation...

              One is by sword...

              The other is by debt."

DO YOU REALLY WANT "COMMON CORE" IN YOUR SCHOOL SYSTEM? LISTEN TO THIS!

Dear Readers:

You've heard the old saying - "out of the mouth of babes oft times comes gems".  Well this is the case in this video.  A senior, Ethan Young, a student at Farragut High School in Knox County, Tenn., made his case as to why he believes the school district should drop the new national education standards, a set of guidelines that were never voted on by Congress, the Department of Education nor by local or state governments.

This is happening in your school district NOW and only you as involved citizens can change it!

RECIPE FOR THE WEEK - CREAM WAFER

 Dear Readers:

Here's a 'neat' little wafer to serve anytime - with ice cream, a fruit compote, or with a cup of tea or coffee.  A nice little something to keep on hand during the Holidays.  It is called a Cream Wafer and it too uses pastry flour.  Once again I have included the link about different flours so you can read all about the difference between flours.

The difference between cake flour, all purpose flour and bread flour. Which do you need, and why?

Don't forget to check out the coupon web pages posted this week on my web page to see if there is any that can be used for the  ingredients.

HESITATE TO BUY FOODS THAT ARE MARKED "SELL BY" OR "USE BY"? YOU SHOULDN'T.

Dear Readers:

How often have you avoided that particular can or boxed food product because it was close to the 'use by' or 'sell by' date?  I know that I haveI don't know about you, but my nickles have to stretch as far as they can.  In the last two years, both my husband and I have laid off of our jobs, and when the new jobs became available, they were at half the salary we earned in our former positions.  So keeping to a tight budget has been a necessity.

Today, during my web surfing, I came across two web pages that offer information about all those 'mysterious' dates you find on food products.  They are the Sharp Shopper Grocery Outlet and Grocery Clearance Center.  Not only do they offer this information, but they offer these goods to customers in their area.  Wish I had one in my area.

Here are the web links to these pages, a link to a pdf article about product dating, and an article about expired foods.

RECIPE FOR THE WEEK - MUFFINS - PLAIN OR FANCY

Dear Readers:

This week's recipe is:
  1. Easy to prepare
  2. Can be served for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
  3. Can be served as a dessert or a side.
Have you guessed what it is?   Muffins.  The recipe will be the basic muffin recipe that can be dressed up or down depending on what you want to serve them with.  Oh, yes, this recipe calls for pastry flour (I just use regular flour), and if you are interested in the different types of flour, here is an article you will want to read:

DIFFICULTY GOING FROM DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME TO "NORMAL" TIME

Dear Readers:

I don't know about you but I wish they either stay on daylight saving time or plain ole' eastern standard time (or whatever it is where you live).  My mind has a hard time wraping itself around the time change, and the older I get the harder it is.  Anyway, came across an article today about the "5 Weird Effects of Daylight Saving Time".

     1.  More car accidents
     2.  Increase workplace injuries
     3.  More heart attacks
     4.  Longer cyberloafing (a.k.a. - surfing the web)
     5.  Increase cluster headaches

EXCERPTS FROM A CAT'S DIARY

DAY 752 - My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture...Tomorrow I may eat another house plant.

DAY 761 - Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair...must try this on their bed.

DAY 765 - Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was... Not working according to plan.

DAY 768 - I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called "shampoo." What sick minds could invent such a liquid? My only consolation is the piece of thumb still LODGED between my teeth.

DAY 771 - There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event, however, I could hear the noise and smell the foul odor of the glass tubes they call "beer." More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

DAY 774 - I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird on the other hand has got to be an informant, and he speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my activities. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured. But I can wait; it is only a matter of time...
