HEALTHY TIP - "SOME FRUITS AND VEGETABLES ARE BETTER FOR YOUR WAISTLINE"

Interesting article - here's an excerpt with a link to the complete article.

"Eating more fruits — particularly berries, apples and pears — and nonstarchy vegetables, like soybeans and cauliflower, may help you lose weight over the long term, a new study suggests.

However, adding starchy vegetables like peas, potatoes and corn to your diet may not be as good for your waistline: People who increased their consumption of these vegetables gained weight over time, the study found."

PEOPLE ARE SPRAY-PAINTING BLUE STRIPS ON CURBS, HERE'S WHY...

With all of the anti-cop sentiment being shoved out of the bowels of the mainstream media, there’s no doubt in my mind police morale is at an all time low, which is what makes this new initiative launched by a Texas man so unbelievably awesome.
Love this!

A Texas man has started a new initiative in his neighborhood to show support for police officers.

Anthony Welichko is calling it “The Safe Harbor Initiative.” As a sign of solidarity with police, Welichko spray painted a little blue strip on the curb in front of his San Antonio home, Mad World News reported.

The blue strip is meant to let officers know that the person occupying the home has their back and appreciates their service. Welichko took to Facebook to further explain the initiative.

He wrote:
“To all law enforcement who see this line, know that the residents of this home appreciate your service and dedication to keeping the peace. Know that when you enter the neighborhood and see these lines that you are not alone or without ‘back-up’. [sic] We do not need the media to make our voices of support for our police and emergency services heard (though it would be nice). Lastly, if you are in my neighborhood and mean to harm a member of law enforcement, know that decision may be hazardous you [sic] health as someone has that officers [sic] back!”

The post has been shared more than 61,000 times, with many people claiming they will join the initiative to show support for law enforcement.

LAUGH FOR THE DAY - MAXINE ON WORKING AND AGE

I KNEW THERE WAS A REASON WHY I FAITHFULLY TAKE VITAMIN D - "LOW VITAMIN D LEVELS LINKED TO FASTER MEMORY LOSS IN OLDER ADULTS"

Dear Readers:

This is one vitamin that I take faithfully.  Of course this study is related to older adults, but I have to wonder if it doesn't impact young adults also (if you get my drift).  Below is an excerpt from the article as well as a link to the entire article.
"Older adults with low vitamin D levels - and that accounts for most of them - may lose their memories and thinking abilities faster than those with normal vitamin D levels, researchers say.

"'We were not particularly surprised by our findings because there is a recent and growing literature on the associations between vitamin D status and risk of Alzheimer's disease/dementia, cognitive decline, and brain atrophy,' Dr. Joshua W. Miller from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey told Reuters Health by email."

ARTICLE - "10 'HEALTHY' FOODS THAT AREN'T REALLY HEALTHY"

Dear Readers:

Think that those juices and smoothies are really healthy?  Well, maybe not.  Here is an excerpt from the article:

"The health foods aisle has a way of making guys fat—and unhealthy—and understandably pretty ticked off.

After all, isn't munching on (nasty-tasting) health foods supposed to be good for you?
If food manufacturers were really out to boost your health, yes. But their end goal isn't making consumers healthier. It's making money. And packaging foods as "healthy," "smart," and "natural" is an easy way to make a buck. Unfortunately, apart from suckering you into eating foods that really aren't any healthier than whatever it is you're trying to sub out, those healthy labels can make you overeat big time. In fact, in a 2015 Penn State study, researchers found that the more fitness-branded foods dieters bought, the more they ate and the less they exercised. So, potentially, your health-foods diet could pack more calories, fat, and ridiculously convoluted chemicals than your unhealthy diet ever did."
