JOHNSON CITY, TN –

In November 2015, the Department of Biological Sciences at East Tennessee State University set up live streaming cameras focused on two active nests of Bald Eagles, our national bird. Two separate mated pairs of Bald Eagles have been selected, one nest is located in Bluff City, and the other is in Johnson City. These cameras provide a novel perspective into the lives and habits of these beautiful birds. Bald Eagles are long-lived birds of prey that have high nest site fidelity and will reuse the same structure for years. As part of the courtship behavior, mated pairs of Bald Eagles will bring new twigs and branches to the pre-existing nest each breeding season which results in a massive structure that can be well over one ton in weight! The Bluff City eagles laid eggs on Feb 3 and Feb 6. The Johnson City eagles laid eggs on Feb 10 and Feb 13. Eggs of Bald Eagles are laid 3 days apart (so ours read the maternity guides and laid their eggs on schedule) and the eggs hatch in 35 days. Using these guidelines, we have calculated the Bluff City eggs should hatch on March 9 and 12 and the Johnson City eggs should hatch on March 16 and 19. S o keep your eyes out everyone, we may have eaglets soon!! This is a prime opportunity to observe these iconic birds in their natural habitat, undisturbed.

PAWS and STRIPES

These dogs are not pets, they are service dogs with the complete protection and rights granted by the American with Disabilities Act.

A MOTHER'S LETTER ABOUT MOTHER'S DAY

What I Want for Mother’s Day!

Dear Children,

Mother’s Day is coming up, and I thought I should tell you what I want. This way there’s no guilty panic or last minute purchasing of flowers at the closest gas station. So, this is what I want, this year and every year after; it’s pretty simple really.

· I want you to be a decent human being.

· I want you to be who you are, but don’t be a jerk.

· I want you to work hard at everything you do, because life is too short not to give it everything you’ve got.

· I want you to ask for help when you need it.

· I want you to help others when they need it.

· I want you to learn how to cook, do your own laundry, pay your bills and know how to clean a bathroom.

· When you screw up, and you will, more than once, I want you to own it, because it’s the screw-ups that make the victories sweeter.

· I want you to travel, because the world is huge and you are one part of it.

· I want you to know that even when we disagree with each other, I will never stop loving you.

· I want you to play nicely with others.

· I want you to feed your curiosity.

· I want you to find a way to do what you love, and realize that that might look different than you originally thought.

· I want you to respect every human being’s right to be who they are.

· I want you to sometimes be more interested in someone else than in yourself.

· I want you to know that you are flawed and you are extraordinary. There is no one else like you.

· I want you to know that I would lay down my life for you any day of the week.

· I want you to realize how lucky you are every once in awhile even if only for an instant.

· I want you to know love, even if it means getting hurt.

· I want you to relax and not feel guilty about it.

· I want you to know life can be brutally hard sometimes.

· I want you to know that you can choose happiness even when the dark side offers you cookies.

· And I wouldn’t mind breakfast in bed.

Check your shampoo bottle label. I don’t know why I didn’t figure this out sooner!! It’s the shampoo I use in the shower! When I wash my hair, the shampoo runs down my whole body, and printed very clearly on the shampoo label is this warning: FOR EXTRA VOLUME AND BODY! No wonder I have been gaining weight!!!

Well I have gotten rid of that shampoo and I am going to start using Dawn dish soap instead. Their label reads: DISSOLVES FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE. Problem solved!!.

If I don’t answer the phone, I’ll be in the shower!

STROKE HAS A NEW INDICATOR

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) ....she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.

Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Jane passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead. It only takes a minute to read this.

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR. Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.

T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE
SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e. It is sunny out today.)

R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke.
